Astrological forecast
I chose the dates based on some stuff going on in space.
The week of our family reunion cruise is no ordinary stretch of August — the cosmos has something to say. We're setting sail right in the middle of eclipse season, with the Sun and Moon aligned in Leo on August 2nd for a Total Solar Eclipse New Moon. In astrology, a solar eclipse at a New Moon is like a new moon on steroids — a powerful portal for beginnings that carries momentum for the next six months. Leo is the sign of the heart, of radiance, of gathering together and shining. That we're literally boarding a ship and coming together as a family on this exact day feels like more than a coincidence. The sky is essentially throwing us a welcome party.
The days that follow add even more texture to the week. On August 7th, the asteroid Chiron — often called the "wounded healer" in astrology — stations retrograde in Taurus, inviting a quieter, more reflective undercurrent alongside all the celebration. Chiron retrograde has a way of gently surfacing old family stories and unspoken things, not to create drama, but to offer a chance for healing. Meanwhile, Saturn is slowing to a standstill and preparing to go retrograde just after our cruise ends, casting a thoughtful, grounding energy over the whole week — the kind that makes you want to sit on the deck at night, look up at the stars, and ask yourself what really matters. Add in Venus moving through Leo and a sky full of Perseid meteors building toward their August 13th peak, and this week has the feeling of something you'll want to remember. We chose these dates for the astronomy, but it turns out the astrology had its own plans for us all along.
